While most people live indifferent to God’s activity in the world, the fact remains that God is the creator, sustainer, and redeemer. God is powerfully and abundantly near. Humanity, despite the wealth and technology, is weak, poor, and distracted from what is most important.
At the center of God’s activity is the Body of Christ, which is the church. He is partnering with His community to establish His Kingdom in this world. In this way, the church is on a gospel mission. She is on a mission to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ both in word and deed. The members of the church should mimic Christ in becoming servant leaders, both within the church and within the larger community. Instead of the Body of Christ existing quietly behind the doors of the church building, the people of God are to be going outside with the good news of Jesus!
Throughout human history, God has used men and women to lead out this mission. Whether these individuals have vocations in full time Christian ministry or not, they are leaders in the church of Jesus Christ. It is not secret that leading in this mission can be a heavy burden not to mention a lonely existence. Recognizing the need for counseling and care for these leaders, BetterDays has established itself for nearly 10 years, as a valuable support leaders in the church.
Instead of focusing on the mechanics of leadership or the strategies for growing a church or business, our focus is the heart and health of the leader. We believe that the leaders' connection to the gospel of Jesus Christ is a lifeline for their efforts in this world.
Chad Karger meets with leaders on a regular basis toward this end. In addition to one-on-one counseling, he also works with whole leadership teams. You can learn more about the counseling on the Center for Biblical Counseling page. You can learn more about creating effective learning environments for whole teams on the Go Outside page. His efforts on this front have grown out of his personal experience in church leadership, including growing up in the home of a pastor.
Over the past 20 years, Chad has worked in both large and small churches, progressive and traditional. He also has professional experience outside of the church as he helped to start a small retail business in his neighborhood in 2007. He also worked as acounselor in a center for drug and alcohol rehabilitation. He works closely with pastors and leaders in an array of settings. He co-authored a book for married couples, To Become One (Relevant, 2004). He currently serves as the teaching elder at Christ Church Northeast in Houston, Texas. He has been married for 20 years and has three children.
