Thanks for stopping by and looking around our newly redesigned site. BetterDays was incorporated as a non-profit, 501-C-3 organization in 2002. My work as a pastor and counselor goes back even further, some 20 years now.
BetterDays is working in partnership with the church of Jesus Christ in her gospel mission. BetterDays does this by providing biblical counseling and spiritual formation, especially for leaders of the church.
The gospel is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16-17). The church’s mission is to proclaim the message of salvation in word and deed. BetterDays is doing nothing less, and certainly nothing more, than coming alongside of the church in this mission. BetterDays is a mission of hope.
Look closely and you will see signs of salvation all around you today! Enjoy and give thanks to God for what you see and experience! Of course, there’s also evidence that sin still has a lingering effect in creation. There is still much that needs saving. Salvation, then, is both a present reality as well as a future hope for all of creation. That now-and-not-yet reality is the context of the church’s mission, and BetterDays’ mission, too. BetterDays comes from a hymn we used to sing at our church, Ecclesia.
Counseling and spiritual direction entails work in the nitty-gritty of people’s lives. It is easy to get bogged down in those details and struggles; it is easy to despair. The name conveys the hope we have in the ongoing salvation in Christ Jesus. Better days are “nearer than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11). (Robbie Seay and his bandmates at Ecclesia church wrote the song “Better Days” and led Ecclesia church in singing for many years. It was the first version’s lyric that seemed to be an apt description of the work I was doing. That was early 2000s.)
These efforts are carried out by me, Chad Karger, and overseen by a board of directors and an advisory board. I hold a master of arts in biblical counseling (Colorado Christian University, ‘95). I have been working as a counselor and spiritual director since that training. My experience within the local church, however, extends back 20 years and includes student ministry, church planting, drug addiction counseling, preaching, teaching, gardening, construction, and writing.
My passion is to provide biblical counseling and formation within a Christ-centered context. I really enjoy doing that with pastors and ministry leaders. I also enjoy doing marriage counseling, pre-marital counseling, and working with individuals who are facing a wide range of issues whether it be depression, addiction, doubts about the Christian faith, or anxiety. In all of these areas, the gospel is the foundation for the counseling and the other efforts.
As such, BetterDays consists of three different areas of work, which you’ll find on this site:
- Center for Biblical Counseling
- Go Outside
- Center for Biblical Leadership
Again, thanks for your interest. I look forward to hearing from you.
Chad Karger
